The Boy Who Cried Wolf

When dealing with wounded children, we generally assume that it’s not a matter of “if” we will be accused falsely by them.  It’s a matter of “when.”  Wounded children triangulate.  It’s just a matter of fact. Usually, the source of our false allegations (at least the ones we know about) have been our third son. [...]

An Old Habit

Yesterday, I took my kiddos to an amazing ranch in Yakima to do some therapeutic horseback exercises.  This ranch, a non-profit, offers a program throughout the summer of therapeutic interactions and eventually horseback riding with the kids for free.  By the way…if you live in Yakima or Tri Cities area, you should totally check out this place! [...]

You Hate Me….

Wednesday was therapy day.  That means a 2 1/2 hour drive into Spokane and then 3 hours in a row of intense therapy sessions.  A very long day for me…and very emotionally tiring. Usually the day after you can find me sitting on the couch…staring comatose at a speck on the wall.  (You should try it [...]

Pee Shrine

Oh yea.  I discovered yesterday that my son has developed a shrine ‘O pee in his bedroom.  I can tell you guys are all jealous!  I bet YOU don’t have a pee shrine in YOUR house! I knew that something was amuck when the hallway of our new house began to smell like urine.  Hmmm….. [...]

The Storm After the Calm

I’m not sure how many of you are aware of this, but many times children with Reactive Attachment Disorder act out worse right after they have either done well or after you have just had a wonderful time with them. So was my day yesterday.  The day before, my newest son had an absolutely fabulous day. [...]

“All” I Got Done

I had high hopes for today.  My goal was to wash the mile-high pile of dishes that have haunted my kitchen for the past 2 days, get in as many loads of laundry as I could, clean my room and the living room, paint my almost-done bathroom, sign my kids up for camp, plan tonight’s [...]

Major Breakthrough!!

Today was a short day for school, so basically my newest son only had two hours of tutoring and then I brought him back home.  He has been kicked out of the regular classroom, because his behaviors were getting so out of control. To say I was less than thrilled about having to go and [...]

Parents Are Coming To Town

My parents are coming into town tomorrow from Wisconsin.  I miss them, so I’m really excited for their visit.  I’m getting ready for their arrival.  You know…..  The normal getting-ready-for-company routine.  Cleaning the house, making sure there are fresh sheets on the guest bed, getting the fridge stocked up, and making sure they have [...]

Love the Feelings Journal

I have found the feelings journal to be quite helpful. My kids hate it. But, I have observed that if they’ve gone more than a week without writing in it, I see the difference in their behavior.

Greiving the Loss of “Normal”

Last week was awful.  It was spring break, and I am still recovering from the fallout.  I feel like I am walking around like a zombie, or the walking wounded.  Not a fun place to be. Last week I started out with lots of dreams and plans for how the week would go.  I had [...]
